HISTORY
Corinda State School was established in 1927. Currently the school consists of a triple unit Prep, 20 teaching spaces, open area with flexible partitions, a music block, a resource centre, a Performing Arts Centre which includes an Outside School Hours Centre, and an administration block. These facilities are complemented by an amenities block and school tuckshop / clothing shop.
The school has an oval, grassed play areas, an environmental area, tennis courts, two adventure playgrounds, basketball courts and netball courts. All except 4 teaching spaces are wheelchair accessible. Corinda is highly sought after as a family oriented school.
Corinda Primary School is a modern school featuring the open area style classrooms which have been progressively established on the present site since 1976. Each classroom is equipped with a flexible partition, enabling teachers to vary the learning area to best suit the students’ needs.
The original school was opened on June 1, 1927, on Oxley Road. Between 1976 and 1991 the school operated on two sites with the Preschool operating at the rear of the original site from 1975 to 2001. A new Preschool facility was completed mid-2002.
At the beginning of 1991, the school was reunited on the Cliveden Avenue site following the construction of a double storey teaching block and two modular buildings. This was later followed by the provision of a large covered play area.
The school has 6.95 hectares of landscaped grounds, including an oval, tennis courts, basketball / netball court, playing fields, junior and senior playground equipment and an environmental area.
The school population is drawn from more than 20 suburbs, with the majority of students from Corinda, Oxley, Darra, Seventeen Mile Rocks, Inala and Durack.
In addition to its 19 classroom teachers, and 3 Prep teachers, our school has specialist teachers in Music, Physical Education, and French. Two Learning Support teachers, an ESL teacher and visiting Guidance Officer and Speech Pathologist are available to assist children.
There are visiting teachers for physical, behavioural and visual or hearing impaired students . Parent and community participation in the school is strong, through involvement in the Parents’ and Citizens’ Association and related activities including volunteer work in classrooms and other school activities.
